Lunch at the Rainforest & a spot of household shopping

We went to the Rainforest Restaurant which was a success with Kaylen! The service was fab, the decor was interesting with dancing gorillas, cheetah with a swinging tail and huge huge really life-like elephants.. K was suitably entertained throughout the meal.. Didnt think photography was allowed so I took the exterior instead..

The scaredy cat

Running out of the restaurant with a gift from the nice staff

Running off with daddy hot in pursuit

Another day of household stuff shopping.. off to Ikea we go! And it was her afternn naptime..

We turned our backs on her to discuss on some items nearby and found that our trolley was filled with slippers.. i got a yellow one in the end to make her happy since she liked them so much..

Outside IKEA

K's feeling all comfy in her playroom/ guestroom/ study with the new table & chair from IKEA

One of our first purchases at Walmart..

Since our boxes are pretty much stuck at the customs for the past 2 wks.. other than the alphabet & shapes cardboards that I brought over for K's entertainment, we decided to get a lil toy to keep her company..

Ta-daa! We found one with K's nickname currently only used by Kris...
NB: Ni-hou Kailan has a tv programme that K actually enjoys! Teaches simple Mandarin to kids..

K with her new toy Kailan

Yup, Kailan is now her lil sis!

Just for the fun of it... here's the magnificent duo with their new STICKY caps, with compliments from Jamie & Kris!

Daddy clearing out the trash

Trying out her new cap

OH YEAH.. striking a pose..
*I'd just noticed she's got a bit of her boxers sticking out too.. just like daddy*

Our first days...

The scenery of our estate is really quite nice...

View from our car - Paul's driving!

The lil fountain at the entrance
The whole estate's just over the bridge...

Peaceful surroundings, tree-lined paths

The long & arduous journey

K after her long journey.. safe & sound at DFW airport

Waiting to board the plane at Narita
It all started 27 Feb, when my parents, in-laws, sis-in-law, lil Ezra & good pal Nat & hubby Jeff woke up mighty early to go to the airport.. they were all sending me and my lil one off to probably a very momentous time of our new lives in the United States..

A 21-hour journey became almost 30-hr with 2 missed connections which even led me to Denver! hahah here are some pixs..

Chinese New Year

I'm not too sure I will miss Chinese New Year this year after all.. its funny because I always like the festivities like checking out the auctions, listening to the CNY songs, putting up the decorations and now, teaching my 2 yo how to sing and dance to that inane 'Gong xi, gong xi' song.

It becomes a little irritating after I moved back to my parents because then I had all the obligations that I have to do to help my mum prepare for the endless dinners, designated driver for midnight wet market run (excuse being lack of fresh fruits, meats & vegetables at the wet market in the ensuing days). PLUS taking care of my helper and child, PLUS my extended family. Life is not that easy.

I miss being mistress of the household again...

Did I say that the movers were great? Here's the link.

Finally, the packing's done

The final count is in! We have 37 boxes! Moving on to the nxt chapter of our lives, we packed up the bed, sofa, wall sculptures.. That's all we've been doing the past wk; rushing home after work, taking leave from work, leaving Kaylen at our parents' during the wkend waking hours. We sorted out what we needed to trash, store in Singapore and packed the rest into boxes.

I'm a sentimental person and keeping clothes and little trinkets from 10 years ago keeps me grounded and remembering those snippets of my life, or that was just my belief. But not anymore, for our family of 3 moving our Singapore life to the other side of the globe in 13 cubic metres of space. I threw out 1/3 of my belongings, stored the other 1/3 at my mum's as 'To be reviewed in a couple of years' and finally the forward-thinking 'Now, now, now!'

It feels good.

I think I'm ready. Well, it's just. The boxes are gone.

Making the decision

After 2 months of deliberating on my options, finally got the courage to leave behind my extended family of colleagues, many of whom are now my dear friends, to become a fulltime mummy & wife... This was a particularly difficult decision esp since I immensely enjoy the company, management, team of wonderful folks and pretty much the culture of working in American Express... True enough, once the decision was shared, the support given by the management was 101%... nothin lesser... God, it made the mental preparation to leave all the more agonising!

4 dec, company announcement was made and come 5 dec, the packing begins! This is nothing like what I had in mind.. Last I moved to Australia for further studies in 2001, it was just a huge suitcase of clothes & shoes.. Now, we're talking abt a minimum of 20boxes and a freaking container that takes 3 wks to reach our destination! It's also abt clearing out a 3-bedroom apartment with paintings & wall installations (not that we hung many up since our plc was still a WIP), a piano, dining set and a storeroom full of golf items, shoes & bags!

How do I feel? Excited really because this is my first big project for our lil family of 3!
